다완, 수상작 선집

한경숙은 전남도립대학교 도예차문화과를 졸업하고, 다완을 중심으로 도예 작업 및 전시 활동을 이어오고 있다.
Han Gyungsook graduated from the Department of Ceramic & Tea Culture at Jeonnam Provincial University and continues her ceramic practice with a focus on tea bowls.
My Story
다완은 나에게 차를 담는 그릇을 넘어, 손으로 시간을 쌓아가는 작업이다. 흙을 빚고 형태를 다듬으며, 유약의 흐름과 가마 속에서 일어나는 작은 변화를 받아들이는 과정은 언제나 같은 듯하면서도 조금씩 다르다.
나는 화려한 표현보다 손에 자연스럽게 놓이는 형태와 사용 속에서 편안함을 느낄 수 있는 균형을 중요하게 생각한다. 꽃과 자연에서 얻은 이미지는 다완 위에 섬세한 무늬로 스며들고, 반복되는 제작 과정은 조금씩 다른 표정의 그릇을 만들어 낸다.
이번 전시에 소개된 다완들은 오랜 시간 이어온 작업 가운데 여러 공모와 전시를 통해 선택된 작품들이다. 수상 자체가 작업의 목표는 아니었지만, 꾸준히 이어온 시간과 노력의 흔적을 돌아볼 수 있는 계기가 되었다.
앞으로도 다완이라는 하나의 형식을 통해 쓰임과 아름다움이 함께하는 그릇을 만들고자 한다. 손에 쥐었을 때의 감각과 차를 마시는 시간이 오래도록 기억되는 다완을 만드는 것이 나의 바람이다.

Tea bowls are more than vessels for serving tea; for me, they are a way of accumulating time through my hands. Shaping clay, refining forms, and embracing the subtle changes that occur through flowing glaze and the firing process may seem repetitive, yet each piece evolves in its own unique way.
Rather than pursuing decorative expression, I value forms that rest naturally in the hand and embody a quiet sense of balance through use. Motifs inspired by flowers and nature are delicately woven into the surface of each tea bowl, and the repeated process of making gives every piece its own distinct character.
The tea bowls presented in this exhibition have been selected through years of participation in competitions and exhibitions. Receiving awards was never the goal of my practice, but these recognitions have offered an opportunity to reflect on the time, dedication, and continuous effort invested in my work.
Through the enduring form of the tea bowl, I hope to continue creating vessels that unite beauty with function. My wish is to make tea bowls whose tactile presence and the quiet moments of sharing tea remain in the memory of those who use them.

[전시 서문]
《다완, 수상작 선집》은 한경숙 작가의 다완 작업 가운데 공모 및 전시를 통해 수상 이력을 지닌 작품들을 선별하여 구성한 전시이다. 특정 시기의 작업을 회고하거나 신작을 발표하는 형식이 아니라, 오랜 시간 반복되고 축적된 작업들 가운데 외부의 평가를 통해 선택된 작품들에 주목한다는 점에서 하나의 ‘선집’으로 기능한다.
다완은 차를 마시는 도구이자, 손과 입, 시선이 동시에 개입되는 그릇이다. 기능적으로는 명확한 목적을 지니지만, 동시에 사용자의 감각과 행위를 전제로 완성되는 형식이기도 하다. 한경숙의 다완은 이러한 조건 위에서 만들어진다. 형태와 비례, 두께와 무게, 유약의 흐름과 표면의 질감은 모두 사용을 전제로 한 판단의 결과이며, 장식적 효과보다는 조형적 완성도와 균형에 집중한다.
전시에 포함된 작품들은 작가 개인의 내부 기준을 넘어, 심사와 비교의 과정을 거쳐 일정한 완성도를 인정받은 결과물들이다. 수상이라는 조건은 작품의 가치를 단정하기 위한 표식이 아니라, 반복과 숙련 속에서 형성된 판단이 외부의 시선을 통해 한 번 더 검토된 지점으로 이해될 수 있다. 따라서 이는 ‘수상작 전시’라기보다, 선택의 과정을 거친 다완들이 어떤 태도와 방향성을 공유하는지를 살펴보는 자리이다.
한경숙의 작업은 급격한 변화보다는 점진적인 조정과 축적의 시간을 따른다. 형태는 크게 요동치지 않지만, 미세한 차이와 선택의 누적을 통해 점차 밀도를 획득한다. 이 선집에 포함된 다완들 역시 각각은 독립된 작품이면서, 함께 놓일 때 작가가 다완이라는 형식을 어떻게 이해하고 지속해 왔는지를 분명하게 드러낸다.

Tea Bowls: A Selection of Award-Winning Works presents a curated selection of tea bowls by Han Gyungsook that have received recognition through juried competitions and exhibitions. Rather than serving as a retrospective of a particular period or a presentation of new works, this exhibition functions as an anthology, focusing on works that have been selected through external evaluation from among those accumulated over many years of sustained practice.
A tea bowl is both a vessel for drinking tea and an object shaped through the simultaneous engagement of the hand, the lips, and the eye. While it fulfills a clear practical function, it is also a form completed through the user's sensory experience and physical interaction. Han Gyungsook's tea bowls are created with these conditions in mind. Their proportions, weight, thickness, the flow of glaze, and the texture of the surface all result from decisions grounded in use, emphasizing formal refinement and balance rather than decorative effect.
The works included in this exhibition extend beyond the artist's own internal standards; they are the outcomes of a process of evaluation and comparison through which a certain level of accomplishment has been recognized. Here, receiving an award is not presented as proof of artistic value, but rather as a moment in which judgments formed through repetition and craftsmanship have been reconsidered through an external perspective. In this sense, the exhibition is less a presentation of award-winning works than an opportunity to examine the shared attitudes and direction embodied by these carefully selected tea bowls.
Han Gyungsook's practice is shaped not by dramatic shifts but by gradual refinement and sustained accumulation. Although the overall forms remain consistent, they gain increasing depth through subtle variations and repeated choices. Each tea bowl in this selection stands as an independent work, yet together they reveal how the artist has continuously understood and developed the form of the tea bowl over time.
